In a new video message, Archbishop Michael Jackson, Chair of the Church of Ireland’s Church and Society Commission, is calling on parishes and individuals to take action in supporting those facing homelessness this winter.
Archbishop Jackson offers practical suggestions to help vulnerable communities, including providing fresh fruit and vegetables to families in need of improved nutrition, and inviting people to participate in parish social activities that foster a sense of belonging.
He emphasizes the importance of stepping up to meet the needs of homeless individuals, urging people to consider their social responsibility to care for neighbors who are particularly vulnerable during the cold winter months. “This is a time to reflect on what each of us can do to serve those who are homeless and to show compassion to those around us,” he says.

As the Irish general election approaches, the Archbishop also calls on voters to advocate for policies that prioritize the needs of the homeless, urging the government to focus its resources on addressing social inequality.
In the spirit of Advent, Archbishop Jackson highlights the significance of praying for the homeless worldwide, especially as we approach Christmas—a season that marks the birth of Jesus, who came to Earth as a vulnerable child.
